Reasonable accommodations are those that allow disabled individuals to fully participate in the daily activities of their lives. In a public school for example, a teacher could make physical accommodations for a disabled student. Similarly, in a residential treatment center, there may be special computer software designed to customize the way that hearing and vision impaired individuals can access the Braille computer systems.

Reasonable accommodations can also include modifications to equipment or devices that are made possible for disabled people to use. This section of disability services defines reasonable accommodations as circumstances that allow a person to perform his or her job duties. Other circumstances are not considered reasonable accommodations. This means that if a workplace is modified to allow an individual to access equipment, the individual does not have a reasonable accommodation requirement.

This manual provides information about what employers need to do when hiring employees, training workers, and hiring employees. It also explains what reasonable accommodations a person with disabilities can make as a matter practical living.
